This will ensure that your tax bill is not higher than it needs to be.

To further optimize your portfolio for crypto taxes, you will need to review and classify any transactions that the platform couldn’t do for you. Classifications are labels that tell you why or how a transaction was made and are directly connected to how the assets are taxed. It is important to understand the tax implications of your transactions and to ensure that they are labeled correctly. 

Additionally, you can use the Missing Funds tool to find any missing transactions and make sure that your portfolio is complete. We recommend that you investigate any missing data, however, in the case that you cannot locate the right data, “Fix for me” will add a reconciliation transaction to make sure your portfolio is accurate.

How to File your Crypto Taxes in the Netherlands

On May 1st, it's that time of the year again. For crypto traders and investors, tax return filing also includes declaring crypto assets. Calculating your crypto taxes can require some effort, especially if you own multiple wallets and assets. Using a crypto tax tool can significantly reduce that time by doing the heavy lifting for you so you can file your taxes on time.

In principle, cryptocurrencies are subject to wealth tax (Box 3) and may sometimes be subject to income tax (Box 1). It's also worth noting that capital gains and losses from non-commercial trading are tax-free. On the tax return, the euro value of all cryptocurrency on January 1st, 0:00, must be declared. This can be difficult if there are many altcoins in the portfolio. Accointing solves these problems for you in one go.

It's important to ensure that you have registered correctly with Accointing, configured the correct tax settings, and verified the accuracy of all your data before submitting your crypto taxes. After downloading your Accointing report, you must file your tax return online through the Dutch tax authority's tax portal. If you are a Dutch taxpayer, your taxable income is calculated based on the aggregate income from three different boxes:

Filing a tax return is relatively straightforward for retail investors who hold cryptocurrencies as personal assets and do not engage in frequent trading activities. It can be done online by login into MijnBelastingdienst, the online portal of the Belastingdienst:

Once logged in, you need to check the box for "Overige Bezittingen" box under "Bankrekeningen en andere Bezittingen." This section applies to other assets under Box 3, including cryptocurrencies.

In this section, once you've reached "Andere Bezittingen," you must declare the total value of your crypto assets on January 1st. Simply input the figure in the Box “Value 01-01-2022'' on the first page of your Accointing report.

If you have completed the above steps, you have successfully filed your crypto taxes with the tax authorities. Yes, you can apply for a tax postponement in the Netherlands. The Dutch Tax and Customs Administration allows taxpayers unable to pay their taxes on time to request a postponement. You can apply for a tax postponement online through the Dutch Tax and Customs Administration's website or by submitting a written request. The decision to grant a postponement is based on your circumstances, and the Dutch Tax and Customs Administration will inform you of their decision. It's important to note that interest will still accrue on any outstanding taxes, even if a postponement is granted.

The Dutch tax authorities have recently introduced a new method of calculating Box 3 taxation, which differs from the previous method. This new method is designed to reflect the actual return on investment better and is expected to lead to a more accurate assessment of tax liability. Taxpayers are allowed to choose between the old and new methods of calculation for the 2022 tax year. However, starting from the 2023 tax year, only the new method will be applicable. The new method is more advantageous for taxpayers with lower net wealth, as they will pay less tax under the new method compared to the old method. For taxpayers with higher net wealth, the old method may be more advantageous, although they may still choose to use the new method if they prefer a more accurate reflection of their actual returns.

The table below provides an overview of the three brackets and how the tax authority applies fictitious returns to calculate the income from your assets.

If your assets fall into bracket 1 (up to €50,651), the Belastingdienst assumes that 67% of your assets are used for savings, and the remaining 33% is invested. They then calculate a return of -0.01% on 67% of your capital and a return of 5.53% on the remaining 33%.

In bracket 2 (€50,651 - €962,351), a return of -0.01% was calculated on 21% of your assets and a return of 5.53% on 79% of your assets.

If part of your assets fell into bracket 3, then a return of 5.53% was calculated on that entire part.

The new method for calculating income from savings and investments is based on the actual assets that you have declared in your tax return rather than the assumed assets used in the old method. The tax authority uses fictitious returns that are close to the actual rates of return for savings or investments, which can be found in the table provided.

To calculate your income from savings and investments, you first calculate the return per type of asset using the rates of return from the table. Then you add the return on savings to the return on investments and other assets and reduce the total with the return on deductible debts.

Next, you calculate your assets by adding up all the types of assets you have declared in your tax return minus your debts. You then use your assets to calculate the rate of return. After reducing your assets with the tax-free allowance, you have the basis for savings and investments. If you have a tax partner, you may divide the basis for savings and investments.

To calculate the rate of return, you divide the calculated rate of return by your assets and multiply the result by 100%. Finally, you multiply the rate of return by your share of the basis for savings and investments to obtain your income from savings and investments. After calculating your income from savings and investments using the new method, you will be required to pay a 32% tax on that income. This tax rate remains the same as in the old method.

How are cryptocurrencies received as wages taxed?

Yes, cryptocurrencies are subject to taxation in the Netherlands. Private individuals holding cryptocurrencies as personal assets don’t pay tax on selling or disposing of them. Instead, they are taxed annually based on the value of their crypto assets on January 1st, under the Dutch wealth tax known as "Box 3". However, if you are professionally involved with cryptocurrencies, gains from trading, mining, and other activities may be subject to income tax under Box 1.

Do You Get Taxed for Buying Crypto in the Netherlands?

No, buying cryptocurrency in the Netherlands is not taxed. You are only taxed based on the value of your cryptocurrency assets at the beginning of the tax year, January 1st.

Yes, the Dutch tax authority, Belastingdienst, can track cryptocurrency transactions. This is achieved through various means, including working with other government agencies and using blockchain analysis tools.

When Do I Report my Taxes in the Netherlands?

Taxpayers in the Netherlands declare their taxes annually, and the deadline for submitting your tax return is typically April 30th of the following year. However, it's important to note that there may be different deadlines for certain types of taxes or situations.

The Netherlands has a tax system that divides an individual's worldwide income into three different types of taxable income, referred to as "boxes." Each box has its own tax rate(s) and is taxed separately under its own schedule.

Box 1 is for income from work and primary residence. It includes income from employment, business income, rental income from a primary residence, and income from freelance or self-employment. Income from Box 1 is taxed at progressive rates, meaning the tax rate increases as the income increases.

Box 2 is for income from a substantial interest in a company. It includes income from shares held in a company with at least 5% of the claims. The income from Box 2 is taxed at a flat rate of 26.9%.

Box 3 is for income from savings and investments. It includes income from savings accounts, investment funds, and other assets that produce income. The income from Box 3 is taxed at a flat rate of 31% on an assumed return based on an individual's net assets.

For cryptocurrencies, only two of these boxes are relevant:

Box 1 box applies only if an individual is professionally involved with cryptocurrencies, including investing and trading, and expects to profit from such a business. The gains are treated as regular income and taxed at ordinary rates.

Box 3: Cryptocurrencies are considered capital assets under Dutch tax law and are subject to Box 3 wealth tax along with the rest of an individual's net assets.

As previously mentioned, Box 1 only applies to individuals professionally involved with cryptocurrencies. To determine whether an activity is considered a hobby or a business for income tax purposes, some initial indicators are:

• The expectation of making a profit from the activity

• Investment of sufficient capital into the activity

For private investors who trade cryptocurrencies in the Netherlands, capital gains from such trading activities are not subject to taxation. Accordingly, capital losses from cryptocurrency trading in private assets are also not taxable. 

However, if an individual operates a business related to cryptocurrency, such as trading and investing beyond a mere hobby, and expects to derive a profit from such a business, the gains are treated as regular income and taxed at ordinary rates under Box 1.

if you receive your salary in cryptocurrency, it is considered a form of payment in kind and subject to income tax - Box 1. The value of the cryptocurrency in euros at their receipt should also be recorded, just like the value of regular salaries. The tax rate will depend on your income tax bracket.

So, how much is crypto tax in the Netherlands under Box 1? The tax rates for Box 1 income are progressive, meaning that the percentage of tax you pay increases as your income rises. The following are the latest income tax rates:

* In the first bracket of box 1, national insurance tax is levied at a rate of 27.65%.

Box 3 taxation is based on the net wealth of the taxpayer, including a broad range of assets and investments, with a flat tax rate of 31% on deemed income from savings and investments. This means that all taxpayers are subject to the same rate regardless of income level. Deductible debts can reduce the tax payable, and there is a tax-free threshold of €50,000 per taxpayer. 

Taxpayers are required to report their assets and investments, including cryptocurrencies. The value of your cryptocurrencies held by the taxpayer on January 1 of the tax year will be added to your other assets, such as savings and investments, to determine your total assets. The following summarizes the principles of taxing different cryptocurrency transactions and activities under Box 3:

In summary, if you are mining as a hobby and not making a consistent profit, you will only be subject to wealth tax on the value of the cryptocurrency you hold as part of your net assets - Box 3. However, if your mining revenue surpasses your expenses, you must report it under "income from other work" or "profit from a business," it will be subject to taxation under Box 1. 

Generally, airdrops and hard forks are subject to Box 3 taxation. This means that the value of the assets received from an airdrop or hard fork is added to the taxpayer's other assets and investments and taxed at the applicable flat rate of 31%. However, if the taxpayer is classified as a trader, these may also be taxed under Box 1. 

Staking rewards are considered part of the taxpayer's assets and are taxed under Box 3. This means that the value of the staking rewards is added to the taxpayer's other assets and investments and taxed at the applicable flat rate. The taxpayer must report their staking rewards as part of their annual tax return and the value of their other assets and investments.

Lending cryptocurrencies is considered a form of standard asset management, and any income earned from lending will be taxed under Box 3 along with the value of the cryptocurrencies being lent. This means that the income earned from lending and the value of the lent cryptocurrencies will be added to the taxpayer's other assets and investments and taxed at the applicable flat rate of 31%.

Holding cryptocurrencies or digital assets is not directly taxable. However, holding them affects the calculation of the annual wealth tax under Box 3. If you hold cryptocurrencies or digital assets on January 1st, you must declare them for the annual wealth tax calculation, even if you do not sell or trade them during the year.

For Box 3 taxation, any cryptocurrency you own on January 1st must be declared, regardless of whether it is later stolen or lost. The value of the cryptocurrency on January 1st is used to determine the amount of tax owed, even if the value of the cryptocurrency has since changed due to market fluctuations or other factors.

The Dutch tax authorities have recently introduced a new method of calculating Box 3 taxation, which differs from the previous method. After calculating your income from savings and investments using the new method, you must pay 31% tax on that income. This tax rate remains the same as in the old method.

Gifts are subject to gift tax, which is known as "schenkbelasting". This tax applies to all gifts that individuals receive, regardless of whether they are money, property, or other assets, including cryptocurrency gifts.

The amount of tax that must be paid depends on the value of the gift and the relationship between the giver and the receiver. If the gift is given between spouses or registered partners. If the gift is given between parents and children, the first €6,250 is tax-free, and any amount above that is taxed at a progressive rate, which can be up to 20%.

If the gift is given between other individuals, such as friends or distant family members, the first €2,244 is tax-free, and any amount above that is taxed at a flat rate of 30%.

It is important to note that individuals who receive a gift must report it to the tax authorities, even if no gift tax is owed. You can submit your gift tax return electronically through the Belastingdienst website. Simply log in to your MijnBelastingdienst account and select the "schenkbelasting" section to complete the necessary forms and submit your return.

When is crypto activity not taxed in the Netherlands?

Purchasing crypto with  any government-backed currency such as EUR or USD is not taxable. This is true for any other digital asset similar to cryptocurrencies, such as NFTs. It makes no difference whether you purchased the crypto through a bank account or a credit card transaction. 

However, if you’re professionally involved with cryptocurrencies, you must pay taxes when you sell or "dispose" of your crypto. You must keep an accurate record of the purchase to determine the cost basis of the transaction. If you use a crypto portfolio tracking tool such as Accointing, the platform will automatically keep track of all this information.

The cost basis of acquired crypto = amount paid for crypto in EUR + fees for the acquisition

As long as you’re considered a private investor by the Belastindienst, purchasing crypto  using another digital asset is not a taxable event. This is true for buying any other digital asset similar to cryptocurrencies, such as NFTs.

However, if you’re considered a self-employed trader, capital gains tax is applied:

Taxable gain or loss = proceeds from the sale (fair market value of acquired crypto) - cost basis of crypto given up.

Proceeds from the sale (fair market value of acquired crypto) = cost basis of acquired crypto (relevant for future dispositions)

The acquisition of the new crypto (coin, token, NFT, etc.) is not itself taxable, but using another asset to purchase triggers a taxable event. This is considered a barter transaction. Using crypto to buy another crypto is the same as selling the first crypto at its fair market value and immediately using those funds to purchase the new asset. The first transaction would be a taxable disposition in which a gain or loss has to be recognized, and the second would be an acquisition for fiat. With crypto-to-crypto purchases, you’re essentially doing both of the above in one transaction. Therefore a gain or loss has to be reported on the asset given up.

Selling or disposing of cryptocurrency is not considered a taxable event for individuals who hold cryptocurrencies as personal assets and are not professionally involved in crypto activities. Instead, the gains from cryptocurrency disposals are included in an individual's wealth and are subject to taxation under the Dutch wealth tax, also known as "Box 3". It is important to note that if you are professionally involved in cryptocurrencies, you will be subject to income tax on any gains realized from trading activities

Transferring cryptocurrency to your own wallet, whether it’s a hot or cold wallet, is not a taxable transaction. Be careful - without precise classification as an internal transaction, some tax reports assume that transfers are taxable and assume a sale. At Accointing, we have decided not to make assumptions about what is internal for a user. We find possible matches for internal transfers and have them verified by the user in one of our review steps. All you need to do is confirm the proposed transactions as internal transfers, which will be recorded as internal transfers.

Crypto donations to registered public benefits organizations (ANBIs) are treated similarly to traditional donations. Donors can deduct the value of their donations from their taxable income. If the donation is less than 10% of the donor's annual taxable income, the transaction is tax-free.

For one-time gifts, there is a minimum threshold amount for the donation to be written off. The threshold amount is based on the donor's total income and deductions in Boxes 1, 2, and 3. The minimum amount is 1% of the threshold income, with a minimum of EUR 60 and a maximum of 10% of the threshold income. The donor can deduct the amount above the threshold minimum until the maximum allowable amount. 

Make sure that the charity you’re donating to is registered as an ANBI in order for the donation to be tax-deductible. Go to this page of the Belastingdienst to check whether the institution you’re considering donating to is registered as an ANBI.

Crypto Trading: Futures vs. Margin Trading

Margin trading involves borrowing funds from a broker or an exchange to take a larger position on a particular cryptocurrency. This can result in higher profits or losses than trading with just your own funds. However, any income generated from margin trading or trading futures and derivatives can be considered taxable income under Box 3.

If the Belastingdienst considers that you’re professionally involved with cryptocurrencies, the sale or exchange of cryptocurrencies is a taxable disposal, and you must pay capital gains tax. Taxpayers must report the realized gain or loss from such transactions in their annual tax return.

What is considered a taxable disposal of cryptocurrencies for Dutch professional traders or businesses?

• Selling a cryptocurrency for fiat (USD, Euro, GBP, etc.)

• Selling a cryptocurrency for a stablecoin (USDT, USDC, DAI)

• Exchanging one cryptocurrency for another

Het indienen van een belastingaangifte is relatief eenvoudig voor particuliere investeerders die cryptocurrencies als persoonlijke bezittingen aanhouden en geen frequente handelsactiviteiten verrichten. Het kan online worden gedaan door in te loggen op MijnBelastingdienst, het online portaal van de Belastingdienst:

1. Eenmaal ingelogd, moet je het vakje "Overige Bezittingen" aanvinken onder "Bankrekeningen en andere Bezittingen". Deze sectie is van toepassing op andere bezittingen onder Box 3, inclusief cryptocurrencies.

2. In deze sectie, nadat je "Andere Bezittingen" hebt bereikt, moet je de totale waarde van je crypto-activa op 1 januari verklaren. Voer eenvoudig het bedrag in het vak "Value 01-01-2022" in op de eerste pagina van je Accointing-rapport.

Als je de bovenstaande stappen hebt voltooid, heb je succesvol je crypto-belastingen ingediend bij de Belastingdienst. Als je een individuele belastingbetaler bent die geen bedrijf bezit, crypto professioneel verhandelt of je salaris of een deel ervan in crypto ontvangt, heb je geen verdere belastingverplichtingen met betrekking tot crypto.

Wat is de deadline voor het indienen van crypto-belastingen in Nederland?

De belasting deadline in Nederland is 1 mei 2023 voor degenen die een brief van de Belastingdienst hebben ontvangen waarin staat dat ze hun belastingen moeten indienen. Het online belastingportaal MijnBelastingdienst gaat open op 1 maart 2023 en belastingbetalers kunnen dan hun belastingaangifte starten. 

Ja, je kunt in Nederland een belastinguitstel aanvragen. De Nederlandse Belastingdienst staat belastingbetalers die hun belastingen niet op tijd kunnen betalen toe om uitstel aan te vragen. Je kunt online een belastinguitstel aanvragen via de website van de Nederlandse Belastingdienst of door een schriftelijk verzoek in te dienen. De beslissing om uitstel te verlenen is gebaseerd op jouw omstandigheden en de Nederlandse Belastingdienst zal je informeren over hun beslissing. Het is belangrijk om op te merken dat er nog steeds rente wordt berekend over eventueel openstaande belastingen, zelfs als er uitstel wordt verleend. 

Hoe wordt mijn vermogensbelasting berekend?

De belastingdienst heeft onlangs een nieuwe methode geïntroduceerd voor de berekening van de Box 3-belasting, die afwijkt van de vorige methode. Deze nieuwe methode is ontworpen om beter de werkelijke opbrengst op investeringen weer te geven en wordt verwacht leiden tot een meer nauwkeurige beoordeling van de belastingverplichting. Belastingplichtigen mogen kiezen tussen de oude en nieuwe berekeningsmethode voor het belastingjaar 2022. Vanaf het belastingjaar 2023 is echter alleen de nieuwe methode van toepassing. De nieuwe methode is voordeliger voor belastingplichtigen met een lager netto vermogen, aangezien zij onder de nieuwe methode minder belasting zullen betalen dan onder de oude methode. Voor belastingplichtigen met een hoger netto vermogen kan de oude methode echter voordeliger zijn, hoewel zij nog steeds kunnen kiezen voor de nieuwe methode als zij een nauwkeuriger reflectie van hun werkelijke opbrengsten willen.

De tabel hieronder geeft een overzicht van de drie tariefschijven en hoe de belastingdienst fictieve rendementen toepast om het inkomen uit je vermogen te berekenen.

Als je vermogen valt in schijf 1 (tot €50.651), gaat de Belastingdienst ervan uit dat 67% van je vermogen wordt gebruikt voor sparen en de resterende 33% wordt geïnvesteerd. Vervolgens berekenen ze een rendement van -0,01% op 67% van je kapitaal en een rendement van 5,53% op de resterende 33%.

In schijf 2 (€50.651 - €962.351) werd een rendement van -0,01% berekend op 21% van je vermogen en een rendement van 5,53% op 79% van je vermogen.

Als een deel van je vermogen in schijf 3 viel, werd er een rendement van 5,53% berekend over dat hele deel.

De nieuwe methode voor het berekenen van inkomen uit spaargeld en investeringen is gebaseerd op de werkelijke activa die je hebt aangegeven in je belastingaangifte, in plaats van de veronderstelde activa die werden gebruikt in de oude methode. De belastingdienst gebruikt fictieve rendementen die dicht bij de werkelijke rendementen liggen voor spaargeld of investeringen, die te vinden zijn in een verstrekte tabel.

Om je inkomen uit spaargeld en investeringen te berekenen, bereken je eerst het rendement per type activa met behulp van de rendementen uit de tabel. Vervolgens tel je het rendement op spaargeld op bij het rendement op investeringen en andere activa, en verminder je het totaal met het rendement op aftrekbare schulden.

Daarna bereken je je activa door alle soorten activa op te tellen die je hebt aangegeven in je belastingaangifte, minus je schulden. Vervolgens gebruik je je activa om het rendement te berekenen. Na aftrek van de belastingvrije drempel, heb je de basis voor spaargeld en investeringen. Als je een fiscale partner hebt, kun je de basis voor spaargeld en investeringen delen.

Om het rendement te berekenen, deel je het berekende rendement door je activa en vermenigvuldig je het resultaat met 100%. Tot slot vermenigvuldig je het rendement met je aandeel in de basis voor spaargeld en investeringen om je inkomen uit spaargeld en investeringen te verkrijgen. Na het berekenen van je inkomen uit spaargeld en investeringen met de nieuwe methode, moet je 32% belasting betalen over dat inkomen. Dit belastingtarief blijft hetzelfde als in de oude methode.

Het is echter belangrijk om op te merken dat er verschillende deadlines kunnen zijn voor bepaalde soorten belastingen of situaties. Voor de inkomstenbelasting is het 30 april maar kunt u ook gemakkelijk uitstel vragen tot september via de website van de Belastingdienst.

Nederland heeft een belastingsysteem dat het wereldwijde inkomen van een individu verdeelt in drie verschillende soorten belastbaar inkomen, die "boxen" worden genoemd. Elke box heeft zijn eigen belastingtarief/-tarieven en wordt afzonderlijk belast volgens zijn eigen schema.

Box 1: Deze box is bedoeld voor inkomen uit werk en hoofdverblijf. Het omvat inkomen uit dienstbetrekking, bedrijfsinkomsten, huurinkomsten uit een hoofdverblijf en inkomsten uit freelance of zelfstandig werk. Inkomen uit Box 1 wordt belast tegen progressieve tarieven, wat betekent dat het belastingtarief stijgt naarmate het inkomen stijgt.

Box 2: Deze box is bedoeld voor inkomen uit een aanmerkelijk belang in een bedrijf. Het omvat inkomen uit aandelen die worden gehouden in een bedrijf met ten minste 5% van de vorderingen. Het inkomen uit Box 2 wordt belast tegen een vast tarief van 26,9%.

Box 1: Deze box is alleen van toepassing als een individu professioneel betrokken is bij cryptocurrencies, waaronder investeren en handelen, en verwacht winst te maken uit een dergelijk bedrijf. De winsten worden behandeld als regulier inkomen en belast tegen gewone tarieven.

Box 3: Cryptocurrencies worden beschouwd als kapitaalactiva volgens de Nederlandse belastingwetgeving en zijn onderhevig aan de vermogensrendementsheffing van Box 3, samen met de rest van het netto vermogen van een individu.

Box 1: belastbaar inkomen uit werk en woning

Zoals eerder vermeld, is Box 1 alleen van toepassing op personen die professioneel betrokken zijn bij cryptocurrencies. Om te bepalen of een activiteit voor inkomstenbelastingdoeleinden als hobby of bedrijf wordt beschouwd, zijn er enkele indicatoren:

Voor particuliere beleggers die in Nederland handelen in cryptocurrencies zijn de kapitaalwinsten uit dergelijke handelsactiviteiten niet onderhevig aan belastingheffing. Dienovereenkomstig zijn kapitaalverliezen uit cryptocurrency-handel in particuliere activa ook niet belastbaar. Als een individu echter een bedrijf exploiteert dat verband houdt met cryptocurrency, zoals handelen en investeren, en verwacht winst te behalen uit een dergelijk bedrijf, worden de winsten beschouwd als regulier inkomen en belast tegen de normale tarieven onder Box 1.

Als u uw salaris in cryptocurrency ontvangt, wordt dit beschouwd als een vorm van betaling in natura en onderhevig aan inkomstenbelasting - Box 1. De waarde van de cryptocurrency in euro's bij ontvangst moet ook worden geregistreerd, net als de waarde van reguliere salarissen. Het belastingtarief is afhankelijk van uw inkomstenbelastingtarief.

2023 Belastingtarieven voor Box 1 inkomen

De belastingtarieven voor Box 1 inkomen in Nederland zijn progressief, wat betekent dat het percentage belasting dat u betaalt stijgt naarmate uw inkomen stijgt. De volgende zijn de nieuwste inkomstenbelastingtarieven:

* In de eerste schijf van box 1 wordt een volksverzekeringenheffing geheven tegen een tarief van 27,65%.

Box 3 belastingheffing is gebaseerd op het nettovermogen van de belastingplichtige, inclusief een breed scala aan activa en beleggingen, met een vast belastingtarief van 32% over verondersteld inkomen uit sparen en beleggen. Dit betekent dat alle belastingbetalers hetzelfde tarief betalen, ongeacht hun inkomensniveau. Aftrekbare schulden kunnen de te betalen belasting verminderen, en er is een belastingvrije drempel van €50.000 per belastingplichtige. Belastingplichtigen zijn verplicht om hun activa en beleggingen, inclusief cryptocurrencies, te melden. De waarde van de cryptocurrencies die op 1 januari van het belastingjaar in bezit zijn van de belastingplichtige, wordt toegevoegd aan andere activa, zoals spaargeld en beleggingen, om het totale vermogen te bepalen. Het volgende vat de beginselen samen van het belasten van verschillende cryptocurrency-transacties en -activiteiten onder Box 3:

Als u als hobby aan het minen bent en geen consistente winst maakt, bent u alleen onderhevig aan vermogensbelasting op de waarde van de cryptocurrency die u bezit als onderdeel van uw netto vermogen - Box 3. Maar als uw mijnopbrengst uw kosten overtreft, moet u dit melden onder "inkomsten uit overig werk" of "winst uit onderneming". Het zal dan worden belast onder Box 1.

Over het algemeen zijn airdrops en hard forks onderhevig aan Box 3-belasting. Dit betekent dat de waarde van de activa ontvangen van een airdrop of hard fork wordt toegevoegd aan de andere activa en investeringen van de belastingplichtige en belast tegen het toepasselijke vaste tarief van 32%. Als de belastingplichtige echter als handelaar wordt geclassificeerd, kunnen deze ook worden belast onder Box 1.

Staking-beloningen worden beschouwd als onderdeel van de activa van de belastingplichtige en worden belast onder Box 3. Dit betekent dat de waarde van de staking-beloningen wordt toegevoegd aan de andere activa en investeringen van de belastingplichtige en belast tegen het toepasselijke vaste tarief. De belastingplichtige moet zijn staking-beloningen opnemen als onderdeel van zijn jaarlijkse belastingaangifte en de waarde van zijn andere activa en investeringen.

Het uitlenen van cryptocurrencies wordt beschouwd als een vorm van standaard vermogensbeheer en alle inkomsten uit leningen worden belast onder Box 3, samen met de waarde van de uitgeleende cryptocurrencies. Dit betekent dat de inkomsten uit leningen en de waarde van de uitgeleende cryptocurrencies worden toegevoegd aan de andere activa en investeringen van de belastingplichtige en belast tegen het toepasselijke vaste tarief van 32%.

Het houden van cryptocurrencies of digitale activa is niet direct belastbaar. Het houden ervan heeft echter wel invloed op de berekening van de jaarlijkse vermogensbelasting onder Box 3. Als u cryptocurrencies of digitale activa op 1 januari bezit, moet u deze vermelden voor de jaarlijkse vermogensbelastingberekening, zelfs als u ze gedurende het jaar niet verkoopt of verhandelt.

Voor Box 3-belasting moet elke cryptocurrency die u op 1 januari bezit, worden vermeld, ongeacht of deze later wordt gestolen of verloren gaat. De waarde van de cryptocurrency op 1 januari wordt gebruikt om de verschuldigde belasting te bepalen, zelfs als de waarde van de cryptocurrency sindsdien is veranderd als gevolg van marktschommelingen of andere factoren.

De nieuwe methode voor het berekenen van inkomen uit spaargeld en investeringen is gebaseerd op de werkelijke activa die je hebt aangegeven in je belastingaangifte, in plaats van de veronderstelde activa die werden gebruikt in de oude methode. De belastingdienst gebruikt denkbeeldige rendementen die dicht bij de werkelijke rendementen liggen voor spaargeld of investeringen, die te vinden zijn in een verstrekte tabel.

Gifts zijn onderhevig aan schenkbelasting, die bekend staat als "schenkbelasting". Deze belasting is van toepassing op alle giften die individuen ontvangen, ongeacht of het om geld, eigendommen of andere activa gaat, inclusief crypto giften.

De hoeveelheid belasting die betaald moet worden, hangt af van de waarde van de gift en de relatie tussen de gever en de ontvanger. Als de gift tussen echtgenoten of geregistreerde partners wordt gegeven, is deze belastingvrij. Als de gift tussen ouders en kinderen wordt gegeven, is de eerste €6.250 belastingvrij en wordt elk bedrag daarboven belast tegen een progressief tarief, dat kan oplopen tot 20%.

Als de gift tussen andere individuen, zoals vrienden of verre familieleden, wordt gegeven, is de eerste €2.244 belastingvrij en wordt elk bedrag daarboven belast tegen een vast tarief van 30%.

Het is belangrijk op te merken dat individuen die een gift ontvangen, deze moeten melden aan de belastingautoriteiten, zelfs als er geen schenkbelasting verschuldigd is. U kunt uw schenkbelastingaangifte elektronisch indienen via de website van de Belastingdienst. Log gewoon in op uw MijnBelastingdienst-account en selecteer het gedeelte "schenkbelasting" om de benodigde formulieren in te vullen en uw aangifte in te dienen.

Het kopen van cryptocurrencies met fiat (bijv. EUR, USD)

Het kopen van crypto (of een andere digitale activa vergelijkbaar met cryptocurrencies, zoals NFT's) met fiat is niet belastbaar. Dit geldt of de crypto nu is gekocht via een bankrekening of een creditcardtransactie. Als u echter professioneel betrokken bent bij cryptocurrencies, moet u belasting betalen wanneer u uw crypto verkoopt of "afvoert". Het is cruciaal om een nauwkeurige administratie bij te houden van de aankoop om de kostprijs van de transactie te bepalen. Gelukkig houdt Accointing automatisch al deze informatie bij.
